K1 Speed and K1 RaceGear Announced As Associate Partner for the 2017 Pirelli World Challenge Series
IRVINE, CA. (Feb. 22, 2017) – WC Vision, producers of the Pirelli World Challenge, has announced that the popular karting center operator, K1 Speed, and its equipment and apparel line partner, K1 RaceGear, have joined North America’s GT Production-based road racing series as contingency sponsor for the 2017 11-weekend series.
Founded in 2003, K1 Speed is the premier karting company in North America with 35 locations. With kart racing centers in 14 states, Canada and Mexico, K1 Speed brings the thrill and excitement of indoor karting to a large audience. Offering highly-advanced and environmentally-friendly electric go karts as well as large indoor entertainment venues that feature authentic racing memorabilia, pit cafes, meeting rooms and pool tables, K1 Speed is a great place to visit with family and friends or to host a corporate event or party.
Pirelli World Challenge enters its 28th season and is North America’s leading GT Production-based road racing series. The 2017 PWC campaign will include 11 weekends with five headline doubleheader events including the new GT SprintX races (two-driver, 60-minute races). Five of the Sprint weekends will be in conjunction with the Verizon IndyCar Series.
K1 Speed and K1 RaceGear have developed a special contingency program this year with the Pirelli World Challenge’s GT classes. PWC racers can register for the eligible contingency awards by downloading the K1 Speed form from the PWC Competitor website at http://race.world-challenge.com.
“We are excited to be involved with one of North America’s top racing series in the Pirelli World Challenge,” said Andrew Palos, marketing manager for K1 Speed. “K1 Speed karting centers hosted several PWC media and customer events in 2016 with top sports car drivers racing against media members and our regular K1 customers. They were extremely fun for everyone. Now, we are expanding our relationship with the Pirelli World Challenge as a contingency sponsor with our K1 RaceGear brand. We hope everyone can experience the K1 Speed karting centers in their area.”
The creation of K1 Speed was to offer enthusiasts and amateurs an authentic and genuine racing experience in a safe, comfortable, accessible and perhaps most importantly, unique environment. Utilizing advanced European electric karts and indoor asphalt tracks, K1 Speed quickly developed a reputation as being fun and exciting. Having champion race car driver Boris Said as a co-owner is an indication of K1 Speed’s commitment to the sport.
To meet the needs of customers and kart racing enthusiast, K1 Speed also has a Pro Shop – K1 RaceGear – which carries everything that a karter or general racer might need to compete at the track.
“Having K1 Speed join us in the Pirelli World Challenge contingency and sponsor program is a great asset to the series,” said Greg Gill, CEO and President of WC Vision. “K1 Speed brings a new group of racing enthusiasts to our growing list of fans as well as future participants. We had a great experience with our drivers, media and K1 Speed customers last year. We are very pleased to extend our association in 2017.”
The 2017 Pirelli World Challenge season begins in the streets of St. Petersburg on March 9-12 in the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg with the Verizon IndyCar Series.
