Formula E Long Beach ePrix: Our 1st Outdoor Track
— FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —
K1 Speed, America’s premier indoor karting company, is set to open its first-ever outdoor kart track during the Long Beach round of the FIA Formula E Championship.
Irvine, CA – March 18th, 2015 – It’s only fitting that the Long Beach round of the all-electric FIA Formula E World Championship should play host to K1 Speed’s first-ever outdoor kart track. After all, K1 Speed was founded in Southern California and has played an integral role in introducing the sport of electric karting to the United States.
Opening its first indoor kart track in 2003, in the Northern San Diego suburb of Carlsbad, K1 Speed has become the preeminent karting company in the United States. Since its launch in Southern California, the company has gone on to open locations coast-to-coast, and now has tracks in Florida, Texas, New York, and Illinois among other states. Providing helmets, training, and equally prepared karts, K1 Speed makes it easy for anyone, young or old, to experience the thrill of wheel-to-wheel racing in a safe, controlled, and professional environment.
K1 Speed’s temporary outdoor track during Round 6 of the FIA Formula E Championship will be situated in the eVillage, right next to the full-sized race course. While the all-electric race cars buzz around the streets of Long Beach, race spectators will be able to hop in K1 Speed’s high-performance, all-electric go-karts for 8-lap heats. Giving fans a taste of what you can experience at our six Southern California locations. The track itself will comprise part of the eVillage’s more than 35,000 sq.ft of space, which should be plenty for the karts to approach their top speed.
Spectators who are interested in racing can visit the track at any time throughout the race weekend (from Friday, April 3rd to Saturday, April 4th). One race for $12 and two races for $20. Racers must be 4’10” and above. Though Arrive & Drive races at K1 Speed’s more than two dozen indoor centers typically last 14 laps, demand is expected to be high during the race weekend. By shortening the race, K1 Speed aims to make certain that everyone who wants to race can, without having to wait too long.
Being kindred spirits of sorts, setting up an outdoor electric go-kart track during the Formula E race weekend was only natural for K1 Speed. Both share the same commitment to environmentally friendly performance, and showcase the latest technology in green, eco-friendly electric power.
