This internationally-acclaimed race is held from Saturday, January 25 until Sunday, January 26 and gives fans in attendance plenty of entertainment and always presents some of the best racing drama.
And once again, we’re giving away tickets and garage passes to the 2020 Rolex 24 – all you have to do is win the 3rd Annual Endurance Race to Daytona at K1 Speed Orlando on Sunday, January 12 starting at 7pm!
Race Format and Rules
Teams will consist of two or three people, who will alternate responsibilities throughout the course of the 2- hour race: Driver, Lap Counter, and Driver-on-Deck. Open rotation order is allowed.
When the race begins, the Lap Counter will begin tracking the laps using a clipboard, and will be responsible for pitting their Driver between laps 10 and 16 by displaying a “Pit Now” sign prior to their pit entrance. Pit road will be open to a max of two karts at a time, and once full, will remain closed until a spot reopens. If the Driver does not pit during this window, a penalty of 2 laps will be deducted from the team’s final result.
When the Driver enters the pits, they must wait for a K1 Speed staff member to assist them in getting up from the kart. The driver will then quickly walk to the Driver-on-Deck and will pass them a bandana that will allow them to enter the pits. Any driver caught running in the pits will be assessed a two-lap penalty for safety violation.
Up to two karts may park in pit lane to wait for a spot to open up, however it is recommended that Lap Counters plan ahead for the optimal time to pit. How you manage your team’s pit stops will affect the outcome of your race. At no time are Drivers allowed to hit any of the track gates or team members. Hitting a gate while racing will incur a 2-lap penalty for unsafe driving.
Upon receiving the bandana from the exiting Driver, the Driver-on-Deck will then receive their kart number and must tie the bandana on the kart prior to leaving the pit road. It’s essential that the new Driver secures their bandana properly as a two-lap penalty will be handed out if the bandana has to be retrieved on the track. Drivers may not hold the bandana while racing, it must be tied to the kart body or wheel. Drivers will be given race speed when leaving the pit, please drive accordingly knowing your tires may need to warm up.
The former Driver will then become the Lap Counter, and the former Lap Counter will become the Driver-on-Deck. This format will continue until the race time expires. Again, in case a team member becomes unavailable to drive, an open rotation will be allowed as long as there is always a Driver on the track and a Driver-on-Deck (counting laps as well). No Driver is permitted to race back to back consecutive runs. The team with the most laps completed minus penalties will win the competition.
The team with the most laps completed will win the competition and the tickets to the Rolex 24!

Trivia About This Year’s Rolex 24
- Matt McMurry – the youngest driver to ever compete & complete the 24 Hours of Le Mans AND 2019 IMSA LMP2 Champion – will be returning once more. This year, he’ll be racing in the GTD class with Meyer Shank Racing’s Acura NSX GT3 Evo, which won the championship last year. When not racing, McMurry is completing his aerospace engineering degree at UC Irvine – just 10 minutes from K1 Speed’s headquarters. And he recently starred in one of our videos! K1 Speed is definitely pulling for this young man to return to Irvine with a Rolex on his wrist.
- Newly-crowned NASCAR champ Kyle Busch will be contesting his second Rolex 24, this time with AIM Vasser Sullivan’s Lexus RC F GT3 in the GT Daytona (GTD) class.
- Four-time IndyCar champ Sebastien Bourdais will make his full-time IMSA debut, having previously raced as a third driver in select endurance races. He’ll race for the overall win in the very successful No. 5 Mustang Sampling Racing Cadillac DPi VR machine alongside veteran Joao Barbosa in the top prototype class.
Allie McAtee
Hi! This isn’t the endurance races that every center will be doing, is it? If not, is there an endurance races schedule? I keep looking and all I can seem to find is the drift night along with the leagues. Thanks!

Hello, Allie! This is an endurance race that’s only being hosted at our Orlando location. At this time, we don’t have anything in place for an endurance race that’s held at every location, however we are hoping to host more of these kinds of events at different locations throughout 2019. Stay tuned to our blog!
K1 Coach & Track Supervisor
We need “Endurance Event” at K1 Santa Clara. I have the drivers to fill this up. I currently run a Pro League Series (30 drivers) at this location, weekly league nights.

Great to hear! This all starts with management. Talk with your manager(s) and have them get in touch with Orlando or Salt Lake City to see how they’ve run theirs!
